Want Basecamp message alerts via RSS? Try Newsgator

I use Basecamp a great deal these days to manage projects and tasks. 37signals is a great company by the way that really cares about producing simple (in a good way), elegant projects.

Recently, I missed out on a few Basecamp discussion threads as the originator of the post didn’t include “all contacts” when sending the original message (an easy thing to not do, by the way) so I decided to grab the RSS feeds so that I could have an easy way to see when new discussion threads were being posted.

Interestingly, Google Reader and Bloglines and a bunch of other popular RSS readers don’t support feeds that require authentication (Basecamp requires a login so its content is not publicly available). A little digging revealed that Newsgator does, however. The nice thing about Newsgator too is that it’s a desktop app that will alert you to new items as they’re published.
