John McCain: "You know, basically it's a Google"

Although I’ll be voting for Barack Obama in November, I like and admire John McCain. And he’s certainly the Republican I could best hope would be the GOP’s nominee, any policy differences aside.

McCain’s at his best, in my view, in casual situations where he can show off his intellect, experience, and wit.

That said, the 71-year-old should probably be careful when joking around about the new fangled technologies.

“You know, basically it’s a Google,” he told an audience at a fund-raiser, joking around with reference to how he’s going about his vice presidential search.

It’s not quite as bad as saying You know, it’s basically a mouse-clicks on the computer box-browser webs, but it does veer into territory that could highlight the candidate’s hipness to the Interwebs in a not-so-great kind of way.

  • The American Conservative has an interesting side bar in the June 16 issue about McCain's utter lack of interest in all things foreign (affairs). It's not on the interwebs yet -- and you best believe I'll be VERY careful when quoting and linking it. Worth watching for.
