Grand Theft Auto IV – Xbox 360 / Playstation 3 side-by-side review

It’s Friday, which means it’s time for some video entertainment. I couldn’t find anything funny this week, so we’ll go with a Grand Theft Auto IV side-by-side review on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

A number of people asked me why I bought an Xbox recently in response to wanting to play GTA IV as quickly as possible. It’s true – and this side-by-side review confirms – that performance is slightly better on the PS3, but I went with the Xbox because of the superior online features (Xbox Live), multiplayer capabilities, and particularly to access video game, movie, and television downloads.

In any event, if you’re like me you’re looking forward to a serious GTA IV teardown this weekend, so this might help to get you ready for it. Enjoy.

  • Damn! I wish the 48-inch flatscreen tv I bought came with a complementary PS3 instead of the 360 that came with it.

Just knowing that I'll be playing an inferior version of the game -- no matter how minuscule the differences -- is a thought that will be present in the back of my mind for weeks detracting from the enjoyment derived from playing the game.

This was a tremendous review by the way. While perhaps slightly disappointed that my console offers the inferior version of the game, your review helped me reach the decision that the differences were not substantial enough to merit purchasing a new PS3 console just for the enhanced version of GTA IV. So thanks for the comparative review, your advice helped me avoid foolishly disposing of $300 I am better off not parting with.

  • Thanks bigeasy! Though I should point out that it's not *my* review, just passing along a pretty interesting side-by-side that I found on youtube.

And by the way, I'm not that much a purist when it comes to this kind of stuff. I play GTA IV on my XBox and as far as I'm concerned, and I'm pretty ecstatic about it thus far.
