I’m firing Valleywag
So it looks like Jordan Golson, the Valleywag writer who boldly (and perhaps foolishly) published his misgivings about his employer’s changes in payment policy, got fired.
Maybe Golson got fired because he outed Valleywag’s pay-less-for-more-work scheme, or maybe it was due to the mysterious “something elses” that Paul Boutin alleges.
Either way, I’ve decided that I’ve had enough. Valleywag was fun and interesting for a while, poking fun at the pomp and circumstance that can pervade the tech industry and providing breaking and insider news now and then.
But I feel like I somehow feel worse about myself when I read it these days, like I’m helping to perpetuate a media culture that I actually don’t feel all that comfortable with (and I’m no prude, trust me!).
The Golson firing incident and Valleywag’s response has helped me to take action on something I should have done a while back: I axed Valleywag from my RSS reader today. If they truly have something of value to say from now on, I’m trusting Techmeme and Twitter and Friendfeed to let me know.
Valleywag, though I know you couldn’t care less, you’re fired.

I did the same thing a week ago. It was like opening up the windows and letting fresh air hit my face. Congrats on your post Vallewag life.

Thanks Reilly! I will hereby celebrate my refreshing new lifestyle by eating some soup for dinner and going to bed early.

The “have to look over at the car wreck” in me still wants to keep them on my RSS. However, I agee with you. Oh heck… I will take them out right now as well.

I sense the beginning of a movement !

Yeah, three’s a trend! Between that and your use of “alleges,” a word no one actually uses in real life, I think you may need to stop reading AP wire stories for a bit. That stuff’s bad for your writing.
But I can relate to your point. I quit Valleywag at least once a month.
Yours,
Paul
p.s. A McCain ad on the Obamanet, bravo. You sure you don’t want to come hang out with Rachel Marsden in our comments?

Paul, thanks for stopping by !
Yes, “alleges,” terribly antiquated, I’m sure all readers were sent scurrying off to their (dusty, print edition) dictionaries to look up such a bizarre and anachronistic term.
