I agree – it takes real design skills (which I don’t have) to be able to mash multiple headlines into one space without creating a “radio station website” feel.

MySpace gives you one headline, one story snippet, and one additional headline above the fold (on my screen, anyway) and to me it still looks cluttered.

Maybe it’s the blue.

I think *one* of the reasons why Digg and Reddit are so popular is because the design is elegant if not simple. See story headlines, visit the link, comment, and particularly: vote. Dressing things up more than that dilutes the power of a social news site. I’m sure that others will disagree with this, but that’s one OMCer’s opinion!

I’m not a MySpace user so maybe I’m missing something, but the front page is kind of underwhelming in its design. So is Google News, of course, but at least you don’t have to scroll down to see more than a couple of stories.

Unless I hear about some incredibly compelling reason to check it out again, I’ll probably stick with Google/Digg/Reddit, etc.
