Thanks Ken! I’m actually paying more for DSL than I was for cable broadband on the hope that things would get better. Four months in and the jury’s certainly still out.

I can’t wait for the Google overlords to give everyone in the US free wi-fi, like they’re doing up in Cupertino.

Just went through an ordeal with Verizon Business DSL. We were getting nothing for upload speed. The download pipe was fine, getting a full 3 MB. Took 20 days of calling them to fix it. They finally got the bright idea to switch us to a different line on the sam block. Oddly, I suggested this in my first support call.

I have no love for DSL, but Time Warner Cable charges a wee bit too much for their business cable plan.

At least I haven’t been charged yet, amy! That said, I’ve had tons of costs associated with my nine-ish month odyssey, from (seriously) dozens of hours on the phone, eons of lost productivity, new equipment purchases, etc. And, sadly, I’ve not once heard of an ISP where people say, “OMG, they are the greatest company ever!” (or something).

In any event, the DSL light popped on mysteriously late last night, so I’m trying to max out on the Internet geekery while I can…

I feel lucky. Up here in Winnipeg, we’re using Shaw for cable internet, TV and phone. No problems so far, except for periodically having to unplug the wireless router and plug it back in again.

I wish I could help – it’d be tough to go without the Internet. Then again, I could probably stand to do some more fixing around the house.

whatever you do, don’t go with Qwest! They’re horrible! I have been in an 8 month battle with them when it comes to my internet. It keeps going down, they keep charging me for repairs when they don’t fix it, and now they owe me quite a lot of cash and have deleted my account to cover up their mistakes. Horrible company!
